Click a product image for more information. What is mulch ? Mulch is a by-product of the lumber industry and until recently is was incinerated, buried or simply thrown away. It is composed of bark, wood shavings and wood chips recycled from the saw mills. Recently, horticulturists and gardeners realized that mulch provided great benefits in landscaping and gardening projects. Since then, it has become an essential ingredient in the growing of flowers, plants & trees of all species as well as fruits and vegetables. Mulch is entirely organic, non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Why use mulch ? Mulch controls weeds extremely well, therefore making weeding easier. It also reduces the need for expensive and environmentally toxic weed killing chemicals. It provides excellent insulation by keeping the soil cooler in summer and protecting it from extreme temperature variations in spring and fall. Wait... there's more! Mulch also retains soil moisture by grabbing onto the rain instead of letting it run away. It stays in place, resists washing and blowing and prevents soil compacting by absorbing the shock of rainfall. Mulch also has decorative uses.
